2nd idea of the Final Project and the process!

I soon gave up on the first idea and wanted to use some data that's already "exsist", and something about numbers.....So I thought of the bus no. and the Mark Six.

At the end I go with the Mark Six, the lottery in Hong Kong, which is like a number generator for me.

I was thinking to generate a sequence of sound with the every lottery result in a specific time period, for example I chosen a piece of music with 49-bar(as there are 49 numbers in the Mark Six), and then so the piece would be arranged into different orders due to the lottery result. But I was not so sure what kind of music should I choose.
After I had the consulting-section with Marco, he gave me some ideas with things that I can "play" with the concept of lottery, such as people's mind with buying theses lottery tickets and how does this lottery system works. He suggested me to do some research about the history of the lottery. During the meeting, he asked me why I am so interested in the Mark Six and picking this as the topic, I just couldnt explained. Then he said something interesting, he said he thinks my instinct thinks it's intereting, and if I would like to explain this to the world, I have to do it in a more rational way, with research backing up.

So, I went to do some research on the lottery and the Mark Six, to have a more solid idea with what exactly to do with the Mark Six results.
The lottery was originally from ancient China, named Kezo, the very first kind of Kezo was called Paige Piao(the white pigeon tickets).
I chosen to focus on this point to generate a video work with the Mark Six result, and I chosen the Mark Six results during the time period that I was in Germany, which is listed below:
27/1 (Thur)1, 6, 14, 25, 29, 35+48
29/1 (Sat) 5, 8, 9, 10, 29, 49+ 46
1/2 (Tue) 1, 8, 22, 32, 46, 48, +9
3/2 (Thur) 6, 8, 10, 28, 36, 37 +21
6/2 (Sun) 1, 2, 16, 27, 31, 47 + 19
8/2 (Tue) 11, 21, 27, 28, 32, 34 +17
10/2 (Thur) 2, 3, 9, 18, 20, 36 + 12
13/2 (Sun) 10, 13, 20, 24, 37, 37 + 16

It was totally 8-issue of the Mark Six, interesting thing is that the number 8 in Chinese means wealthy.
And I chosen a music which is related to pigeon, the La Paloma, its Chinese name of this song were being translated into a Pigeon song somehow. The generate system of the audio part would be:

  • Divided into 49 parts equally

  • Rearranged the orders showing the Mark Six result within a time period

  • (8-day results: within 26/1/2011 - 14/2/2011)
As for the video part, I've got some footages with pigeons:

  • 4 “source clips” were chosen and each of them were divided in 49 parts in particular frame rate

  • Frame-rate rule:

  • Thur: 8 frames

  • Tue: 4 frames

  • Sat: 12 frames

  • Sun: 14 frames
*same source video were used to represent the same day
*when the day repeat, the speed of the clip would be slower: 100% then 50% then 10%

For the final outcome would be like this......

(sorryfiles still uploading, it was the work I shown in class.....)

It turns out the video part is shorter than the audio part as they are being generated from 2 different systems, but which is okay for me as we can't polish it too well as in generative art. As to me, this kind of unexpected result is pretty cool afterall!
And here's the orinal music I've used in the video....
